This project is a half poetical, half-documentary atlas about one legendary faraway Spanish territory: la Cabrera Leonesa. This region, placed between Galicia and Leon, was famously visited by journalist and writer Ramón Carnicer in 1962. In Autumn 2008, I would follow his steps, taking numerous pictures of empty houses and neglected dovecots. Concerning each photograph, the life and deeds of every last dweller was imagined by drawing them all locked up inside like specters in a castle. A brief handwritten story tells us about their ill fate. To write these tales, a highly threatened rural dialect was chosen, which was once common in the area. In 2017, this project was shown at Spanish Academy in Rome, within the group exhibition “Many roads. Contemporary images of the Way of St. James”. In 2018, the same exhibition moved to MUSAC (León-Spain).
